~ She had to literally break her piggy bank for the $10 it cost for them to get married. She was only 17. Her friends drove all over the town that night looking for the hotel the couple was in. Little did the friends know that she and her hubby were both in their own homes, in their own beds. They didn’t have the nerve to tell their parents they had gotten married. It was about a week later before they mustered up the courage. The first week of their marriage was spent apart. That was 48 yrs ago.
~ Her first job was at the local drive in. The uniform included a gray mini skirt and a white blouse. She was one of the first to ever wear a mini skirt in her town. People didn’t know that she had sewn fishing anchors into the hem of her skirt so that the wind wouldn’t blow it up. She had never worn anything that short before.
Just another fascinating woman in our midst that I have had the pleasure of chatting with.
